Book Design

This is a collection of books, book covers, and zines I have made in the last few years. Enjoy!

King of the Delta Blues Book Cover, 2021

Typography, book design, 2D, Print

Working with UT Press to propose a new cover for the second edition of King of the Delta Blues: The Life and Music of Charlie Patton was an interesting challenge. In my design, I used the silhouette of Patton’s head not only to make it personal to him, but to mimic cartes-des-vistes images that were popular at the time. I wanted the typography inside the silhouette to be “bouncy” and fluid to reference blues music; the golden yellow for “king” was popular in design during Patton’s lifetime and also mimics a crown. This design was awarded a silver ADDY award in the student category at the regional level in 2023.

After choosing an international country, I was tasked to design an intervention that will educate my audience on a chosen topic. The beautiful and stylish France was my chosen country. I felt like tourists, and American study abroad students in particular, needed a guide on what to wear in order to blend with the native French peoples if they so desire. My goal was to educate these students on French Fashion in a pocket-sized booklet, called “French Fashion Fundamentals.” This booklet has ten tips about how to dress like the French, along with photo examples.

America’s Most Wanted Dog Toys Zine, 2022

Typography, zine, 2D, risograph, print

Have you ever wondered what your dog’s toys get up to after dark? This zine explores exactly that. Each page features a toy’s mugshot and description of the crime committed. It was printed using two colors on a risograph machine.

David Rose Character Portrait Zine, 2023

Typography, zine, 2D, Print

This zine is all about the eccentric David Rose from the hit show Schitt’s Creek. It’s written as a look-book of some of David’s most iconic looks from the show, paired with real-world examples of how you can copy the look at home. There is a look from each season, along with a quote from the corresponding scene. The look-book is bound in a leather jacket, a nod to David’s sense of high-fashion, love of leather, and his frequent wearing of the color black.
